Black Business Emergency Relief Grant (BBERG)
Overview and Outcome

Why BBERG
Especially due to the impact of COVID-19 and historical systemic racism on small Black businesses across Canada, the BBPA has taken the lead in creating the Black Business Emergency Relief Grant (BBERG) to enable small Black businesses to get back on their feet in the second phase of COVID-19.

This is part of the BBPA In The Community Initiative; a BBPA COVID-19 holistic sustainability and recovery strategy and plan for Black businesses and professionals.

What’s BBERG About?
The Black Business Emergency Relief Grant is a $150,000 fund that is designed to provide financial relief to small Black businesses in Little Jamaica. Little Jamaica is the small business district in Eglinton Avenue West, which is home to lots of Black small businesses. These businesses have been worse hit due to the construction and impacts of the pandemic. The BBERG fund will award $3,000, $5,000 and $10,000 funds to small businesses with the most pressing financial need.

Corporate Canada and others will be encouraged to support the BBERG fund initiative to increase the reach of businesses that will be supported.

The anticipated outcome of this program for small Black businesses is that they get immediate support in the execution of operations to sustain them through COVID-19.

Who Is BBERG For?
The Black Emergency Relief Grant is open to all Black businesses registered in the Little Jamaica Project and registered as a BBPA member.
